Pilot V5 Pen

This pack of 12 Pilot Precise V5 RT premium rolling ball pens provides an effortless writing experience. Equipped with precision point technology for skip free writing and an innovative liquid ink formula designed to produce smooth flowing strokes, these smooth writing instruments deliver an enjoyable writing experience.

This pen works wonderfully for doodling and creating spontaneous faux ink wash effects in your sketchbook, however it should not be used for inking pieces that you intend to color using alcohol-based markers.

Ink Flow

The Pilot V5 pen is an all-round reliable choice. Its easy use and smooth writing are features our testers particularly appreciated; though its writing speed may not compare with some of our other picks. However, that could suit those who prefer taking their time or need an added bit of friction between ink ball and paper. Testers were particularly fond of its needlepoint tip comfort and heft as well as clear crisp lines it produced.

Its ink is wetter than that of the Jetstream RT but still creates crisp and dark lines, while being less likely to bleed through paper (an issue commonly associated with rollerball pens) than those from Dr. Grip Center of Gravity or Uni-ball Alpha-Gel pens. Furthermore, this pen skipped and smudged less often than our other two rollerballs; although its soft grip could collect paper lint.

IF YOUR PENS ARE Skipping or Smudging, try writing on various surfaces or running the tip over scrap paper to flush away any dried ink that’s clogging the nib. Use some acetone or alcohol to clean out the ink feed tube, and always store pens with their caps still attached; new pens may have issues due to ink formula or paper issues – if this is happening you could try placing the nib against something dry for several hours until drying is complete –

Writing Performance

The Pilot Precise V5 pen are ideal for artists who appreciate fine lines. Their ink flows smoothly and dries quickly on paper while creating dark lines without skipping. Although their tip may get gunky with cheaper papers, a quick wipe off on scrap paper usually eliminates this issue. Their light construction makes them comfortable to hold; plus there is no cap to lose! This makes using it while drawing or writing in class simple and effortless.

The capped version of this pen is ideal for doodling and creating spontaneous faux ink wash effects in your sketchbook, while water will quickly cause its ink to spread into a mess, thus rendering this method unsuitable for watercolor lineart or pieces to be colored with markers.

Precise V5 RT features an improved grip section, making it my preference over its classic capped version. Still simple plastic cylinder-shaped, the rubbery grip section provides comfort to both large and small hands alike; furthermore, its airplane safety makes this pen ideal for frequent travelers; although slightly pricey for retail store brands it could well be worth your while!

Refill Options

Stay focused on the task at hand while writing comfortably with this Pilot Hi-Tech point 05, V5, or V7 refill cartridge system refillable pen featuring easy gliding ink for smooth writing. Stay on task without experiencing hand cramping when writing comfortably with this black ink refill!

Refill your pen easily by unscrewing its cap, placing it on an edge of a flat surface, and pulling out your old cartridge while pressing hard on its seal to release it. Insert your new one, slide into place, and push out any debris that accumulates during this process.

If your inkflow is impaired, use a cigarette lighter on its lowest setting to heat the metal nib section, making sure not to overheat it, before shaking and scribbling on paper with your pen to get things moving again.

Overall

Overall, this pen is great. The ink flows smoothly without skipping or splotching and the color is deep. Additionally, its cap remains secure and easy to grip (even for small hands). However, on cheaper paper or over nonphoto blue pencils the nib may clog easily, though this can easily be fixed with a damp paper towel swipe if that occurs – there is also a clear window that shows you how much ink remains within.

Only thing I didn’t care for about this pen was its grip section – just a plain plastic cylinder without much rubbery or soft texture, with a lip where it meets the barrel that can become sharp while writing depending on how I hold it. Additionally, this pen isn’t Copic safe; immediate application of Copic ink will smudge it even after 24 hours have passed since drying began.

Overall, this rollerball pen is an excellent starter rollerball that won’t break the bank. Not only can you use it for doodling and dot drawing purposes; you can even create faux ink wash effects in your sketchbook by spontaneous dot drawing with this pen! Plus it works great when used with water brushes for watercolor linework! Sadly though it may not be ideal for inking pieces rendered using alcohol-based markers!
